The Laconia Short Sword is named after feared warriors of Sparta who ruled the region of Greece. It is a potent weapon that was superb in the brutality of ancient hand-to-hand combat. The sword was shorter than the ancient Athenian version in order to encourage the Lacedaemonian Spartan warrior to use more thrusting attacks at the trunk and groin of his opponent. Such attacks would have been especially effective when the armies opposing the Lacedaemonian had started to discard their body amour. This historic version of the Laconian Short Sword was reproduced from the famed book, “The Spartan Army.” The leaf-shaped blade is of hand-forged high carbon steel, tempered for strength and meticulously polished to a superb finish. Featuring a bronze grip and leather-covered hardwood scabbard, this is one of the strongest and finest swords available. Hand-crafted by the famed metalsmiths at Windlass Steelcrafts. This sword will be professionally sharpened to order and cannot be returned. Overall: 19″ Blade: 141/2″Lx21/2″W. 3/16″ thick. 2 lbs.
