Lioco Sonoma County Chardonnay

Not as buttery as some California Chards, but still fuller-bodied than the unoaked versions that seem to be gaining popularity, this Chardonnay from grapes grown on the sunny hills of Sonoma County bridges the gap between the two styles, making it a smart pick for a crowd. With a nose of lemon meringue pie (!!) and flavors of herb- and honey-dressed pomelo, it works with everything from baked brie to shrimp risotto. But that’s not to say it can’t happily hang with fried chicken and potato salad, too. TIP OF THE TONGUE The grapes for this vintage were harvested during a third consecutive year of drought, resulting in a reduced crop of smaller grapes with super concentrated flavor. We’re currently into sipping a chilled glass of this alongside, well, everything.
