This spectacular red wine gives us a warm, fuzzy feeling every time we open a bottle. (No, it’s not just from the alcohol.) Bethel Heights Vineyard is a family-run operation on one of the oldest vineyards in the Willamette Valley’s famous Eola-Amity Hills – one of the most sustainable vineyards, anywhere. Why? Well, they “promote beneficial insects” to control pests, use compost tea to boost the immunity of their vines, installed solar panels to reduce their reliance on the grid and have invested a lot in careful water management and enhancing their vineyard’s native biodiversity. Sounds good, right? And all that being good to the land seems to be pretty good for the wine, too. The low alcohol content (just 13. 4%) makes for a totally drinkable bottle. Fresh and bright, with aromas of black cherry and brown sugar, and a flavor of ripe berries, herbs and a delicate hint of tannin, it doesn’t get much better than this. tip of the tongue This Pinot Noir is delicious now, but would also be worth aging for a few more years. It also happens to be grown in the the same small area as the grapes for St. Innocent Winery’s Pinot Noir Temperance Hill. So pick up a bottle of each to taste and compare!
