This a very special vintage of Gardens of Babylon from Abe Schoener’s Scholium Project. The original 2006 was a taste of one single vineyard: Steve Tenbrinks’ Babylon, in the Suisun Valley of California. The 2012 – super dark, with fresh black fruit to accompany the inky red color in the glass – is meant to showcase Steve’s grapes across many of his vineyards, to be “as purely Tenbrink as possible.” It’s about 60% Petite Sirah from the original Babylon and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from his Wolfskill vineyard. The remaining 10% Cinsault and Syrah come from other venerated vineyards in Napa and Lodi. tip of the tongue We think this berrylicious red is great with creamy, tart goat cheese. We’ve even been known to bust it out with a fresh-from-the-oven blueberry pie – don’t judge!
