Introduced by St. Patrick, aged whiskey is an acquired taste that has been popular for centuries. Single malt whiskey is said to be made in one particular distillery made from a mash which is said to include barley which is the malted grain. Typically associated with Scotland, single malt scotch whiskey has to be aged for three years in a casks and distilled using a pot still. The batch process is used with the more common form of marrying at bottling time, various batches that are mixed or vatted to achieve consistent flavours from one bottling run to the next.
