Brooklyn Slate Geometric Slate Coasters

With their stratified finish, these hexagonal slate coasters are a happy marriage of sharp design and rustic vibes. We love using them as, yes, coasters for drinks, but because we’re rule-breakers we also find ourselves using them as serving platters for single pieces of cheese (it fits one whole gorgeous wheel of Cremont!). Brooklyn Slate Company is a collaboration between two friends, Brooklyn-based designer Sean Tice and Parsons graduate Kristy Hadeka. After visiting Kristy’s family quarry in upstate New York in 2009, the two grabbed a few pieces of slate to use as all-purpose boards back home in Brooklyn. Sean and Kristy discovered how well the slate pieces worked (and how pretty they looked) when used as trivets for tea kettles and hot dishes and as coasters for beers. They began gifting pieces to friends, and the response was so overwhelmingly positive that the two struck out to produce a line of slate products. The coasters come as a set of four, each one backed with cork to provide resistance on tabletop surfaces. TIP OF THE TONGUE The temperature-resistant stone makes these coasters perfect for your morning cold brew or after-dinner hot toddy.
