Dome of the Rock is a shrine located in the Old City of Jerusalem on the Temple Mount and is steeped in religious traditions because of the Foundation Stone at its heart. Intended to act as a shrine for pilgrims and to house Muslims from the cold and heat, it was never meant for public worship. The octagonal outer side structure walls are made of porcelain and the dome is Byzantine art mosaic and marble that took seven years to complete. The Knights Templar believed that the rock was the site of the Temple of Solomon and so today many visit this work of art.
