This soulful, bright, “field-to-glass” gin is inspired by the sun. Yes, the sun! Made from non-GMO rye grown on a family farm in small-town Minnesota, Solvieg (SOUL-vai) is, unlike most gins, made of individually distilled botanicals that each get their solo time to…shine. Everything’s eventually blended together to create the final creamy, ethereally light spirit, but each citrus fruit, herb and spice maintains its own excellent depth of flavor. Far North Spirits is actually the northernmost distillery in the contiguous US (far out!). Every step from milling to bottling is done by hand, on-site, by co-owner and head distiller Michael Swanson. Shine on. tip of the tongue We like to show off this sun-sational gin in a Far North calls the Basil Collins: Muddle 5 basil leaves and 1/2 oz simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice, 2. 5 oz Solveig Gin and ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass with ice, and top up with club soda.
