Flying Bird Botanicals Organic Cedarwood Black Chai Tea

We love tea, and have been searching for a truly great one created by an independent, American maker. (Yes, these are the things that we obsess about.) Well, we almost fainted when we came across this gorgeous tin and learned about Flying Botanicals. Then there was the issue of taste – we kept our fingers crossed when we opened the tin and brewed our first cup… With the sweet strength of black tea and the warming brightness of cardamom, allspice, clove, ginger and more, this tea exceeded our expectations. Hand-cut vanilla beans add some extra oomph to that comforting chai vibe. Flying Bird Botanicals in Washington State mixes a classic Indian chai blend of whole organic spices with fairly-traded organic Himalayan black tea leaves. Each silken tea bag is 100% compostable and packed into tins made of recycled steel – they’re reusable too! did you know? When brewing loose-leaf tea without a strainer, pyramid-shaped tea bags are your best bet. The shape and extra breathing room allow each full dried tea leaf to expand and unfurl once the water hits, with enough surface area to guarantee total flavor extraction. You can reuse tea bags at least once more for a slightly weaker yet still totally delicious brew. tip of the tongue Black teas can handle hotter brewing temperatures and longer infusions – in fact, just-boiled water is necessary to bring out all the characteristic, subtly sweet flavors in each leaf. Scout of Flying Bird Botanicals recommends pouring hot water over the tea, covering and steeping for at least 7 minutes (longer, if you think the spice is nice). Add a splash of cream or drizzle of honey for the quintessential comforting cup.
