What began in 1927 to commemorate the nation’s 150 year existence was never completed. Originally the four presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln were supposed to be depicted to the waist, but due to a lack of funding only the faces were carved out of the rock before work ceased. The back of this ornament permanently says MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL SOUTH DAKOTA. The Black Hills of South Dakota are a tourist draw because of the Harney Peak that houses the presidents. Nearly three million people visit them every year. This personalized Mt. Rushmore ornament is made of glass and is a great momento for a trip through the Badlands.
