Orion 4.00″ ID E-Series Safety Film Solar Filter

This black-polymer film solar filter fits our fan-favorite Orion ShortTube 80mm Refractor Telescope optical tube assembly (OTA) and FunScope 76mm TableTop reflector tube. The film filter material provides a more affordable alternative to a glass solar filter. With this filter attached to your telescope, you’ll be able to safely observe sunspots, eclipses, and more in delightful detail. The Orion 4.00″ ID E-Series Safety Film Solar Filter is made with a black-polymer film which is stronger and more durable than other thin film solar filters. This black-polymer filter displays the Sun in a natural and pleasing yellow-orange color unlike the white or especially unnatural blue shade cast by some other film filters. The yellow-orange image of the Sun will yield high-contrast, clear views. This filter has an inside diameter (ID) of 101mm (4.00″), making it a perfect fit for our popular Orion ShortTube 80mm refractor telescopes and the compact FunScope TableTop Reflector Telescope, which would be an ideal setup for any beginning astronomer interested in an affordable and portable telescope for safe viewing of sunspots on the Sun during the day. A strip of adhesive-backed felt is included to provide a secure friction-fit of the filter on a telescope. CAUTION: Always make sure the solar filter has a safe and secure friction-fit to the telescope it’s being used with. Never look at the Sun, either directly or through a telescope, without a professionally made protective solar filter installed that completely covers the front of the instrument, or permanent eye damage could result.
