Unna Bakery Farmer’s Cookie

It’s hard not to regret all the tender cookies we’ve missed out on by not living in Sweden, where the sit-down-and-chat-awhile coffee/cookie break (fika in Swedish) is not only welcome in the workplace, but culturally mandated! Väl, we’re making up for lost time at Mouth HQ thanks to Swedish-born Ulrika Pettersson, who founded her Harlem-based Unna Bakery to bring the traditional and elegant cookies of her heritage to a country that could stand to slow down and savor the moment a bit. These crispy Farmer Cookies are made with organic butter, flour, almonds and Swedish golden syrup (a thick, amber-colored sugar syrup, also known as treacle). We can’t get enough of them, especially if there’s a strong cup of kaffee nearby (for dunking!). TIP OF THE TONGUE If you’ve reached your coffee quota for the day, a great substitute is a cup of Dona Chai – give the bottle a quick shake, then mix equal parts concentrate with milk. Dunk away.
